Job Description

Press Officer FTC 20 monthsLondon Office Base with Hybrid Working£40,000 circa"MaPS; Money and Pensions Service is looking for an experienced Press Officer to join the Corporate Affairs Team. Working as the Press Officer you will drive awareness of our full service offering and manage our reputation to internal and external stakeholdersthrough the execution of effective media and public relations."The Press Officer will support the development and execution of communication strategies that engage and enhance our national audience base; encouraging consumers to act now from our key messages in national, regional, consumer and trade press publications.You will be supporting the Senior Press Officer and your key responsibilities will be;

  • To be accountable for the basic running of a press office;
  • Consistently monitor the media channels, ensuring the media agenda is reviewed and shared daily with the wider business and that any opportunity to react and comment as a brand is fully optimised.
  • To be the day-to-day contact for reactive media enquiries, to ensure all enquiries are answered and shared with the team to ascertain value to the business.
  • To work with the Senior Press Officer to ensure media campaigns are executed and delivered on time for the business in a collaborative manner.
  • To proactively identify and develop ideas and opportunities to promote Money and Pensions Service communications priorities and corporate achievements to consumer and B2B audiences.
  • To be accountable for the Money and Pensions Service media centre on the website, and to ensure all comments/ reports are uploaded in line with the comms plans and on time
  • Researching and writing press releases, Q&As, and statements and preparing all forms of PR communication to agreed approvals processes and handle sell into media where appropriate.
  • Providing press office out of hours roster cover on a rota basis
The Press Officer will need to have the following skills and experience:
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the UK media network and be able to form strong relationships with exceptional account management skills.
  • Have a good understanding of how a press team works, and the ability to demonstrate accountability, proactiveness and confidence when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • PR account manager level or in-house equivalent level experience
  • Experience of operating in or working with a complex corporate organisation, which is always subject to significant public scrutiny.
  • Credible PR skills: first class written communication skills, with strong ability to write press releases, media responses, media briefings, social media posts, blog posts and by-lined articles, and proven attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet both specific and unexpected deadlines
  • Resilience and ability to provide rapid and robust responses to external comments or policy developments.
