Job Description

Do you want your research to make a difference in people’s lives If your PhD is in molecular or cell biology, then this Postdoc at AstraZeneca could be for you!About the Program: We’re currently looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc Program. From our centre in Cambridge, England, you’ll be in a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from the start. You’ll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories. It’s a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines. What’s more, you’ll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who’ll provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. This is an exciting area that hasn’t been explored to its full potential, making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.About the Role: Looking to make an impact to patient’s outcome in Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) disease This position represents a fantastic opportunity for a postdoc to push the cell free nucleic acid analysis in liquid biopsy outside of Oncology. The successful candidate will select and apply novel epigenomic methods to improve patient outcomes in IPF.IPF is a progressive lethal condition with 3-year median survival. IPF is caused by genetic and environmental interactions, and many studies identified disease-associated dysregulated genes as well as differences in site-specific and genome-wide DNA methylation. Early diagnosis of IPF would provide the opportunity for earlier therapeutic intervention and improved patient outcomes. We seek a driven and results-oriented postdoc who will work in a multi-disciplinary environment to characterize the epigenomic landscape of IPF and take the findings forward towards the development of novel diagnostic tools. You will work with leading clinical academic collaborators in this field, as well as diagnostic companies, to generate high-quality and high-impact scientific data. Successful development of diagnostic tools will have a significant impact on patients and would change therapeutic guidelines.Essential Experience and Education:

  • PhD in molecular and cell biology, preferentially in the epigenomics space
  • Proven ability to independently design and execute experiments and interpret results
  • Strong scientific track-record of published or accepted papers in well recognized peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong knowledge in next generation sequencing
  • Basic NGS bioinformatic skills
  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis disease biology
  • Experience in a range of epigenomic-related technologies, e.g. bisulfite sequencing, CHIP-seq
  • Experience with epigenome bioinformatic methods
  • Skills and Capabilities required:
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate commitment and passion to science
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadline
