This is an exciting area that hasn’t been explored to its full potential, making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.About the OpportunityLooking for a role where you can make a difference Well, dont miss out on this significant postdoc project!Statistical methods for performing population adjustment, such as Matching-adjusted indirect comparisons (MAIC), are of fundamental importance across a wide range of activities at AstraZeneca. Were looking for a postdoc to further develop our reputation in this area. The postdoc will have exposure to the different phases of drug development and evaluation, and have close interactions with experts of various backgrounds, including clinicians, epidemiologists and health economists. The postdoc’s innovative statistical work has the potential to make a vital and lasting impact on patients’ lives.What more can you ask for in your careerThis postdoc will join our collaborative and supportive SIRE (Statistical Innovation – Reimbursement Evidence) group, supervised by Dan Jackson.The postdoc will undertake statistical work concerning Matching-adjusted indirect comparisons (MAIC) and related methodologies. This will begin with a critical evaluation of existing approaches. Methodological work will focus on the effective sample size of samples after performing population adjustment, and the development of new statistical methods. The postdoc will have the opportunity to undertake applied work and use these methods in drug projects. They will also be responsible for writing scientific papers, presenting conference talks, giving internal presentations, developing training courses, and writing guidance documents.Essential Education and Experience:

  • PhD in statistics, or a closely related subject (or near completion of PhD).
  • Good knowledge of the statistical software R.
  • The ability to work collaboratively to solve statistical problems.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in presenting scientific work.
  • Ability to communicate statistical ideas to scientists who are not statisticians.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Contributed to scientific papers.
  • Presented at scientific conferences.
  • Experience in statistical topics that are closely related to the project, such as meta-analysis, systematic reviews, Heath Technology assessments and propensity scores.
  • Proven ability to steer the direction of scientific work.
  • Fundamental knowledge of biomedical research and drug development.
  • Skills and Capabilities required:
  • Data analysis.
  • Computer coding.
  • Evaluating and developing new, statistical methodologies.
  • Collaborating and communicating with scientists (statisticians and non-statisticians).
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral
  • This is a 3-year programme. 2 years will be a Fixed Term Contract, with a 1 year extension which will be merit based.
