Job Description

Optical Scientist/EngineerPlease note: Candidates will be required to sign an NDA if they are requested to interview.A global powerhouse within the technology sector are looking for an Optical Scientist/Engineer to join their team in Cambridge on an initial 12 month contract.They are seeking an exceptional experimental scientist or engineer to join their technical team developing advanced optical technologies for the cloud.Skillset The successful candidate should have a PhD in optics, experimental physics, or a degree plus equivalent professional experience. The successful candidate must be skilled and bring a strong background in several of the following areas (experimental):

  • Optical microscopy
  • Polarization Optics
  • Optical Design
  • Free Space Optics
  • Laser Optics
  • Optomechanical integration
  • In addition, the candidate must possess the following skills:
  • Understanding of specifications of optical components to able to lead procurement of lab components/equipment.
  • Building and testing free-space optical experimental setups, run experiments and logging/analysing results.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision towards defined task milestones within a team environment.
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills, capable of managing multiple simultaneous tasks effectively.
  • Handling and basic use of electrical test equipment.
  • Besides their qualifications for experimental research, candidates should in general provide a high degree of motivation to perform work in a highly collaborative spirit.
  • Experience The candidate must have 3-5 years experience working in an optical laboratory environment.
