Job Description

Combining electronics and organic materials is a game-changer in consumer and automotive technology, and beyond! This team in Cambridge are doing just that and are looking for a Materials Engineer for their warm and friendly growing team.Working within the Research team, who are responsible for the development of new formulations and materials innovations in the growing arena of Plastic Electronics. This group focuses on a wide range of new polymers and material assessment activities. Itsa hands-on, practical engineering role, working with some exceptional engineers.The role will give you exposure to an interesting variety of projects and may even require you to travel within the UK and abroad to meet with business partners, suppliers and customers.The Role:

  • Develop new formulations, by applying scientific principles and designing optimised and repeatable processes
  • Review projects and create new ideas and strategies
  • Provide input in selection of equipment and processes
  • Carry out manufacturing process development, manufacture of laboratory stability batches, exhibit batches and technology transfer to ensure processes and related SOPs are successfully developed and seamlessly transferred into commercial production
  • Engage in formulation analysis and conduct product characterisation studies and analytical testing
  • Translate results into scientific reports
  • Research activities on individual and team basis.
  • Testing and data management, including recording, analysis and reporting.
  • Lab-based experimentation
  • Work with external suppliers of materials and samples
  • Thin film deposition and characterisation
  • Participate in scientific publications and presentations
About You:
  • BSc or higher in Materials Science / Chemistry or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong hands-on expertise in analytical chemistry and materials formulation
  • In-depth understanding of chemical stability and characterisation techniques
  • Knowledge of designed experimentation and statistical data analysis are a plus
  • Proven experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • High attention to details when carrying out and reporting on experiments
  • Strong problem-solving skills
