Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer - CambridgeOur client, a genuinely disruptive innovatorm and rapidly growing biotechnology company, are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their expanding team as they gear up towards their first major product release in the next 12-24 months.Manufacturing Engineer role:Over the next two years they will transition from one-off prototypes, through to prototypes for early market testing and transfer to low volume production. You should be able to demonstrate the impact you have made in the transfer to manufacture of previous projects and designs. You will enjoy a wide range of responsibilities including:

  • Direct involvement in low volume manufacture and set-up of pilot assembly lines
  • Development of manufacturing processes, leading activities such as P-FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, QC planning etc.
  • Acting as a manufacturing consultant across the entire engineering team
  • Creation of designs for individual components, assembly jigs and fixtures
  • Liaison with chosen partners and sub-contractors
  • Leadership of others in specific tasks and projects, including test engineers, interns and technicians
  • They are partnering with external sources for the development of their MEMS chip, and the integration and assembly of this chip into their overall system, that imposes demanding fluidic, chemical and thermal demands, is seen as a core challenge for this role. This role is focussed as a technically driven hands-on contributor to the wider efforts of the business.Manufacturing Engineer requirements:You will either be degree qualified in an engineering subject or have a good HNC/HND in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate direct experience in NPI (New Product Introduction) activities.Essential experience:
  • Proven track record of working as part of a team delivering innovative and reliable products into production
  • Extensive knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing techniques, materials and assembly processes
  • Direct experience of integration of a silicon chip or lab-on-chip into a wider electro-mechanical package
  • Ability to work with a wide range of technical disciplines, including chemists and biologists
  • 3D M-CAD user with the ability to create 2D engineering drawings, and check the work of others
  • Desirable experience:
  • Experience of collaborating with manufacturing suppliers and partners, including audit activities
  • Background of working within life sciences, ink-jet printing, medical devices or scientific instrument design
  • Industry experience of developing both durable and consumable elements of systems
  • Experience of working within a quality management system, for example ISO13485
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary project leadership in the manufacturing/process development area
