Job Description

The Linux Systems Administrator will contribute to technology roadmaps, Participate in pojects to enhance our compute environment and provide break/fix and refinements to existing IT systems. The role requires the application of a wide range ofskills, knowledge and experience, to ensure critical IT services continue to operate at expected levels and are appropriately scaled to meet demandThe role requires a significant understanding of Linux technologies and an eagerness to develop new skillsYour day to dayWithin the IT department, you will work on key business and departmental projects, engage with our userbase and interact with DevOps and Engineering teams to deliver secure, supportable and scalable IT solutionsThe activities you will be responsible for include:

  • Contribute to the IT enhancement backlog
  • Implement enhancement to existing technologies
  • Research, evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Provide business-as-usual/break-fix support for solutions deployed within Sepura, ensuring that requests logged via the Service Desk platform are completed based on impact and priority
  • Contribute to root cause analysis activities
  • Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s) and resolution(s) of issues
  • Create, review and maintain system documentation
  • Strong teamwork and provision of guidance/support to junior team members
What you need to succeedQualifications
  • A-level/HND qualification
Experience and skills
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in an IT role
  • Ubuntu Linux system administration (NIS, LDAP, DNS, Email, Proxy)
  • Automation (Puppet/Foreman)
  • NFS/Network Attached Storage
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Proxy and web filtering
  • Virtualisation/Container technologies
  • Bash/Python scripting skills
  • License management (flexnet)
  • Any exposure to storage, network or firewall technologies
  • Backup technologies (preferably Veeam or NetVault)
  • Understanding of industry trends and emerging threats
  • Strong technical problem solving skills
