Job Description

Our client, a technology and product development consultancy based in North Cambridge, is looking for a temporary Lab Technician. There are potential permanent prospects for the right candidate. Working in our client’s laboratories you will contribute to, and work on, multiple projects as a key team member involved in building prototypes, test rigs and running experiments. You will be involved in planning, executing and writing up experiments in collaboration with other project team members.Your role will include:

  • To perform analysis, allocated tests and daily quality control checks within the laboratories.
  • To take responsibility for the operation of the product development labs, including looking after the facility and training colleagues to operate equipment (including digital microscopes, high speed camera tensiometers, environmental test chambers and HPLC etc.)
  • To work closely with engineers and scientists, ensuring the facility is used efficiently and safely.
    • The ideal candidate will have experience in identifying, understanding and managing potential lab hazards, including hazardous chemicals, drugs, compressed gasses, cryogens, electrical hazards etc. Candidates will need to be qualified to HND level and/or BTEC, OND or similar in a technical discipline or a degree in a related subject. Candidates must have the ability to assemble prototype products and lab test rigs that include electrical systems. It is necessary that candidates have demonstrative experience producing an experimental plan, taking accurate experimental recordings and writing high quality experimental reports. Ideally candidates will have a working experience of tensiometers, dimensional measurement systems, high speed cameras, oscilloscopes and dataloggers. A strong working knowledge and experience in supporting the management of health and safety in laboratories is essential for this role. Candidates must have a willingness to work closely with engineers and designers in a fast-paced environment; flexible in their approach to work and confident working in teams. The offices are based in a beautiful rural location and it would be beneficial to have your own transport. Required skills
