Job Description

Head of OperationsSpider are advertising for a full time Head of Operations to join our well established clients team. They are in a process of change; its vital that you have a growth mindset and can demonstrate that youre dynamic and forward thinking as you will play a pivotal part in delivering our ambitious plans.We are looking for someone who is willing and able to challenge the status quo and leadership will be keen to hear your ideas on how we can continuously improve MGS. The role can be based at either our head office in Rougham, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk or the Coventry, West Midlands site, and you will need to be willing to travel to the other UK sites regularly. This will include overnight stays in Newcastle at least on a monthly basis.MGS was established in 1988 and manufactures & supplies specialist quality products for use in ground investigation, water well, and geothermal drilling applications, as well as a variety of railway drainage and landfill gas & leachate management products.The company employs about 60 people and operates across three locations in the UK (Bury St Edmunds, Coventry, and Newcastle) and via a German subsidiary company.This Head of Operations role will be a key part of the Senior Leadership Team going forward to contribute to the development of the companys strategy. You will lead the strategy development in the areas of production, technical (engineering & IT),supply chain (purchasing, warehousing, logistics), and facilities to ensure that the company achieves its short and long-term objectives.The Head of Operations, through day-to-day management of the operations teams, will bring to life the companys strategic plans into defined operational plans and KPIs across the production, technical, supply chain, and facilities operations of thecompany to ensure that business objectives are met efficiently, and the company maintains their competitive position.Other Key Duties will include:

  • Recruit, direct, develop and manage operations staff to ensure that they are motivated and trained and so that they carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.
  • Develop and implement business processes, policies, and procedures to ensure that core operational functions achieve their business objectives and KPIs and identify opportunities to streamline business processes and systems.
  • Develop and control operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure the company has all the resources required to meet its objectives within agreed financial parameters.
  • Oversee building maintenance functions, ensure buildings remain legally compliant, and in good repair.
  • Working with the HSEQ Manager to ensure safe and healthy working environments across all company locations.
  • Evaluate overall company performance by gathering, analysing, and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Report to and liaise with Board, Shareholder, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all other directors and managers to ensure effective co-ordination of all company activities in support of business objectives.
  • Develop leadership and coaching programmes to increase employee effectiveness.
As the Head of Operations, you will ideally have a degree or equivalent in Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing or Business Management as well as a strong background in people management, IOSH Managing Safety, Lean Manufacturing and strategic planningin a similar role and industry. You will have a strong understanding of Purchasing, Production, Engineering, Warehousing, Logistics & Facilities. You will have a strong business and financial acumen, with experience of managing budgets and change management.You will have outstanding communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels. You will be confident with managing and developing staff as well as having the ability to prioritise. You will be an action-oriented problem solver with project managementskills and the ability to deliver timely and quality results. You will need high attention-to-detail, strong analytical skills and to be confident with business systems and MS Office. You will have practical, hands-on experience in some or all the operationalfunctions that youll be responsible for.This is a full-time role and offers a competitive salary from£65,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus car allowance and business mileage, with 25 days of holiday (plus bank holidays).
