Job Description

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting an independent multi-disciplinary consultancy on the hire of a Graduate Town Planner to their team in Cambridge.Our client specialises in town planning, urban design, architecture, landscape and the historic environment and works with a great range of clients, from housebuilders to infrastructure providers!As a Graduate Planner, you will provide support to the wider planning team on planning applications and projects across a mix of exciting projects. Fully supported by an experienced team, you will gain confidence and understanding to grow into a competentTown Planner.Duties will include

  • Drafting planning applications, pre-application enquiries and appeals.
  • Undertaking basic planning appraisals and research.
  • Preparation of fee proposals to generate new business.
  • Review of Local Planning Authority (LPA) Local Plans and their stage of production.
  • Assisting clients throughout the planning process.
  • Assisting with community engagement, committee meetings and public examinations.
  • Communicating with all stakeholders involved in the planning process.
  • Provides reliable technical / process input on own initiative but able to determine when work should be escalated to a higher level.
  • Carries out site visits.
  • Able to put forward ideas which can help improve the business, by suggesting new ways of working or better use of technology or automation.
  • Operates within a defined area of work and provides support to their team as required.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • An RTPI accredited degree or Masters in a related discipline.
  • Previous work experience that can come from a work placement or be currently employed.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Is open and seeks support / assistance from senior colleagues when struggling to fulfil tasks.
  • Good client liaison skills.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Solid report writing skills.
  • Understanding of the UK planning process.
