Job Description

This position of Electronics Workshop Lead will give you the opportunity to manage not only the Electronics and Electrical workshop, but also a small team of Technicians.So, as much as your hands-on technical skills are important, your leadership, coaching and motivational skills are vital.As part of this world-leading academic research based in our beautiful, historic central Cambridge, your role will be to support research and teaching offerings within the team that provides electrical and electronics systems expertise.You will report to the Head of Design and Technical Services and also work closely with your counterpart in Mechanical Design, as well as the Lab Manager. This really is a superb organization in which to build and develop your career!Your Role:

  • Manage the Electronics Workshop, including production, facilities and technicians
  • Provide technical leadership in regard to electronics, software and electrical design and production
  • Engage with academic, research staff and students
  • Ensure safety is adhered to and training provided
  • Your hands-on support will encompass some of the following:
    • experimentation support, design, PCB manufacture, PCB assembly, manufacture of enclosed modules and electrical cabinets
About You:
  • Excellent academic record in an appropriate engineering subject
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary design, development and production environment, creating bespoke solutions, using both digital and analogue technologies
  • A working knowledge of the 18th Edition would be a plus
  • Technical depth and experience in modern electronic manufacturing engineering, methods, and processes including specification, design, development, testing and debugging
  • Experience with power supplies, microcontrollers, sensors, etc
  • Embedded knowledge, e.g. Python & C++
  • Superb communicator
  • Experience of project planning, project management, budgeting and procurement
