Job Description

Design Engineer - Scientific InstrumentationThis company have grown rapidly since spinning out, and have developed a unique technology platform that delivers a step-change in benchtop measurement of protein interactions.As part of their ongoing growth, they are looking to hire an experienced CAD/PDM Engineer to join their talented, multi-disciplinary Engineering team.CAD and PDM Engineer role:As our CAD and PDM Engineer you will support and drive the creation of 3D CAD models, assemblies, 2D drawings and BoMs for mechanical and electronic components; apply quality standards for drawings and CAD models and manage the release of technical product specifications into the ERP system through the Change Control process.Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, 2D drawings and BoMs for mechanical and electronic components

  • Create mechanical 3D CAD models, 2D inspection drawings, BoM, assembly drawings as part of the design output documentation
  • Liaise with the mechanical engineering design team to ensure all CAD data is integrated correctly into the PDM
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure material specifications including key and critical process information is correctly captured within the technical product documentation during the part review process
  • Lead design reviews to ensure technical product documentation generated within the engineering team complies with the companys procedures including tolerance stack analysis
    • Apply quality standards for drawings and CAD models
  • Maintain the mechanical CAD system, PDM system and related software tools managing software upgrades and downtimes as necessary
  • Provide CAD and PDM system training and guidance on best practices for 3D CAD modelling, draughting and configuration control of parts to all users
  • Develop and document procedures for 3D CAD modelling, draughting and assemblies in line with industry best practices and quality standards for technical product documentation
    • Manage the release of technical product specifications into the ERP system through the Configuration Control process
  • Prepare technical product specifications (STP files, BoMs, 2D drawings etc) for release into the ERP and / or to suppliers
  • Prepare technical product specifications for PCBAs (Gerber files, assembly drawings, BoMs, circuit schematics etc) for release into the ERP and / or to suppliers
  • Ensure technical product specifications are release through the Configuration Control process within the Companys Quality Management System
    • CAD & PDM Engineer Requirements:
  • A degree, or equivalent by experience, in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience with the use of a MCAD tools, preferably SolidWorks, in a design environment
  • Minimum 5 years experience with administration of an accompanying PDM system
  • A thorough understanding of BS-8888 and the application of the standard
  • An understanding of applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to components and assemblies
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to co-ordinate with engineering teams
  • Experience in an SME would be desirable
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 would be desirable
  • Experience working in an engineering/technology environment would be an advantage
