Job Description

Help tackle the global food waste problem and feed the world!Opportunity to be the Control Systems expert in a start-up like environment.KEY SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrable commercial experience in Control and/or Automation Systems Engineering (circa 3-5 years or more).
  • PLC programming expertise
  • Electrical System design capabilities.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation & control systems related safety processes, and relevant standards.
  • Full driving license and willingness to travel on occasion to client sites (all UK, mostly within a 20 mile radius of Cambridge).
    • ROLE SUMMARY:A well funded company in the insect-based feed sector is seeking a Control Systems Engineer, to work within a small multi-disciplined engineering team and ultimately be the go-to expert when it comes to all things Control Systems related.The conundrum of what to do with global food waste has become a multi trillion dollar industry - and this company are leading the way when it comes to devising ways to turn wastage into viable food sources for animals and humans (with a little help from insects and very clever technology!). Ultimately the aim is to harness these solutions to improve our food production systems and tackle problems like world hunger.A Control Systems Engineer is required to take ownership of the control and automation processes behind a number of mini-farms that play host to insects - these systems are responsible for environment control, temperature & humidity levels, interacting with AI & Computer Vision platforms, and more.You dont need any experience in the feed / agriculture / animal sector (although an interest in this world would go a long way!), but you will need to be an already highly capable Control Systems Engineer, with PLC programming and Electrical Design expertise, and circa 3-5 years commercial experience or more behind you.Being the only fully fledged Control Systems Engineer in the company, you will also need to be the type of person who embraces the start-up environment, and the extra responsibility and wearing of numerous hats that can come with this.
