Our strength comes from our outstanding people; our strong relationships in the educationworld; our expertise in using technology to help people learn; our global footprint and local reach, and our position as a profitable, global company with a unifying sense of purpose.About the jobReporting to the Head of Course Development, the Content Development Manager will be responsible for managing a team of Principal, Lead and Senior Instructional Designers, responsible for the content development and delivery of online learning content andassets for our online and blended course development projects. You will ensure that your team maintain the quality and envisioned learning design throughout the content development process, as well as ensuring timely delivery according to scope, schedule,quality and budget.You will ensure that appropriate resource, processes and procedures are in place to support this delivery, working collaboratively with other functional leads to ensure an efficient and joined up approach. You will determine and agree on content developmentbest practice. This includes leading on strategy for accessibility and ensuring that courses meet all WCAG guidelines from a content development perspective. In addition, you will manage and maintain an appropriate instructional design pool of resources, settingbest practice and consistency for instructional design across the team.You will also provide continuity in approach to team development and training, removing obstacles to ensure that team members are empowered and able to succeed and develop.The ideal candidate will have a background in content development and/or instructional design, with experience of creating quality online learning experiences. You will have line management experience. You will also have excellent project management skillsand the ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams to deliver learning experiences of outstanding quality. You will also have a track record in creating efficient processes and procedures.You will play an important role in working collaboratively with the academic services team upstream to bring your pedagogical experience and expertise to each project. You will ensure that content and instructional principles are considered in the designphase to ensure a seamless transition from academic services to content development.The job description reflects the current priorities of the company. It may need to be configured differently over time if these priorities change.About you

  • Line management experience
  • Experience of working as a Lead or Senior Instructional Designer at a university or other Higher Education establishment, or publisher/online learning company producing online courses for the HE market.
  • Expert content writing skills, together with knowledge of the end-to-end content design and development process, together with experience of delivering content in a variety of formats.
  • Able to manage and mitigate schedules in a fast-paced environment, overseeing and managing multiple module deliveries with competing priorities.
  • Previous experience in setting and managing content development strategy, or potential/desire to do so.
  • Experience and understanding of accessibility guidelines for online content, with experience in checking to ensure that content is accessible to all end users and best practice is applied.
  • An understanding of interactive authoring tools and their capabilities (e.g. Captivate, Evolve, Adapt, Articulate) is desirable.
  • Understanding of the regulatory and legal requirements when using media assets such as copyright, intellectual property (IP) rights, web accessibility.
  • Able to identify issues, identify key stakeholders, and drive through resolution through strong influencing and matrix management skills.
  • A team player combined with leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple, complex projects within aggressive timeframes, to multi-task and continually prioritise changing project tasks / deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Solid project planning and project management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, academics and other key institutional and internal stakeholders, and collaborate both in person and remotely.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK to client meetings (20%)
Key AccountabilitiesLine management: Provide oversight and direction to team members; coach, mentor and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities for existing employees.Working with our partners and customers: In collaboration with your lead and senior instructional designers, establish mutually agreed guidelines and templates for academics (to include academic manual, briefing documentation and style guides) for each projector service. Establish a relationship management strategy for each module to include ways of working, best practice, and communication plan to ensure the development is collaborative and inclusive. Always understand and follow Pearsons agreed ways of working/ POLs principles.Troubleshoot and facilitate to ensure project delivery: Through effective daily management of your team, ensure that content development deadlines and responsibilities are met. Provide direction, mitigation and solution to ensure all projects are deliveredto required content development standards, schedule and budget.
