Job Description

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Neonatal Medicine and Neonatal Transport Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.We seek to appoint a dynamic clinician to join a team of Consultant Neonatologists working in the level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and with the Acute Neonatal Transport Team.The appointee will provide clinical leadership, specialist advice and multi-disciplinary management for the Neonatal Unit and for the Neonatal Transport team across the region.It is an exciting time to join the team as Funding of £128m for a new children’s hospital in Cambridge to open in 2023 has been agreed and work is in full flow regarding the delivery of this project.The Neonatal Unit in Cambridge is one of three tertiary level units in the East of England Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. We have close links with the rest of the network including two other Tertiary Units. The Unit has a capacity of 52 cots and currently operates at 40 cots (28 ITU/HDU and 12 SCBU) with just under 6,000 inborn deliveries. As well as comprehensive Neonatal Intensive Care, the Unit provides a Service for the high risk Maternal and Fetal Medicine teams, specialist Neonatal Surgery and Neurosurgery. We have close links with the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and the University Department of Paediatrics.The Acute Neonatal Transfer Service (ANTS) for the East of England is one of the busiest neonatal transfer teams in the UK providing emergency and elective transfers 24/7, 365 days a year. From April 2021 there will be an additional interim Paediatric Retrieval resource covering Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire as well as providing the opportunity to better integrate neonatal and paediatric critical care retrieval whilst a longer-term solution is finalised for the region. The combined service will be called the Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval Service (PaNDR).As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust.
