Job Description

CNC Manufacturing Engineer Salary: £30,502-£36,386 (Grade 6) Reference: KA35269 Category: Assistant staffDepartment: Department of PhysicsContract: PermanentWorking Pattern: Full TimeLocation: West CambridgeThis prestigious university is looking for a CNC Manufacturing Engineer (Principal Technician) to join their team at the Department of Physics.You will be a member of the Cavendish Technical Services, delivering highly specialised technical support to research groups and external customers in the design, development, manufacture, maintenance and installation of scientific instruments and researchlaboratory equipment and varied commercial projects.If you are fully engaged and adaptable, a team player and problem solver with excellent communication skills, they would love to hear from you!Main Responsibilities:a) Provide highly specialist advice to researchers and students in the design of experiments, and the design of particular equipment, including on choice of materials and methods of manufactureb) Manufacture and prepare prototypes and specimens, using specialised skills, on verbal instructions or sketches from researchersc) Provide numerical control machining and programming technical experience.d) Establish technical requirements for manufacturing and producibility.e) Design, construct and modify sophisticated laboratory research equipment using highly specialised engineering skills and techniques.f) Design and develop unique pieces of research equipment using Fusion CAD/CAM software packageg) Provide engineering drawings using CAD for third parties contracted to manufacture specimens or prototypes.Skills/Qualifications:a) 5 axis prior experience, Preferably Mazakb) Millturn prior experience, Preferably Mazakc) Strong Cad/cam background, Preferably Autodesk based Fusion & Power milld) Some flexibility with working hours including occasional call out to help unmanned machine running breakdowns.Benefits:a) Competitive rates of pay with automatic service-related pay progression and annual cost of living increases;b) Generous annual leave allowance of up to 41 days paid leave (including bank holidays);c) Flexible and hybrid working opportunities when project applicabled) Generous maternity, adoption and shared parental leave entitlement and other family friendly schemes (e.g. workplace nurseries and salary exchange schemes for childcare);e) An auto-enrolment pension scheme , with a generous employer contribution ( employer will pay 21.6% of employees total pensionable pay)f) Travel benefits and retail discounts at over 2,000 local and national stores;g) Schemes to support with relocation / the provision of accommodation h) Regular overtime availablei) Cycle to work schemej) Training and personal professional development opportunitiesThe Department of Physics has over 1000 staff, students, visitors and collaborators organised into 15 research groups and a number of support services.
