Job Description

Salary: £33-£39kLocation: Chelmsford/Cambridge (with hybrid home working)Hours of Work: Full-time (37 hours per week)Role Overview:

  • Develop, build and maintain data warehouse solutions and systems that meet university requirements for business intelligence and reporting.
  • Undertake requirements gathering, analysis, design and development of reports and reporting platforms and solutions to meet statutory, management information and operational reporting requirements.
  • Apply data analysis and data modelling techniques, based upon a detailed understanding of the corporate information requirements.
  • Administration of BI reporting portals and tools such as QlikView, QlikSense or PowerBI.
  • Ensure effective service transition into operation of new reporting/BI solutions and capabilities, whether as part of a project or service enhancement through appropriate testing, user acceptance and support processes are in place.
  • Develop and maintain operational supplier relationships of 3rd party vendors of reporting and BI solutions.
  • Ensure any support requirements responsible for are resolved at appropriate priority in accordance with agreed service levels including management of 3rd party suppliers in the resolution of incidents.
  • Respond and deliver standard service requests within agreed service levels.
  • Work with IT infrastructure colleagues and suppliers to manage solution environments.
  • Provide an effective customer service that models the universitys values and enables IT Services to deliver excellence.
  • Form alliances and relationships with key stakeholders/ contacts across the university to enable effective delivery of services, raising the profile of IT Services and ensuring clear, effective and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of all relevant industry and technological developments in the marketplace and provide advice to the project stake holders and Senior Management on how to take advantage of these to support the development of project initiatives that deliverbusiness objectives.
  • Work in compliance of all our university policies and procedures and take local responsibility for implementation e.g., Health and Safety.
  • Comply with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR requirements in all working practices maintaining confidentiality, integrity, availability, accuracy, currency, and security of information as appropriate. Take personal responsibility for all personal datawithin your own working environment.
Person Specification:
  • Degree and appropriate level of experience and evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role OR part qualified in a relevant professional qualification appropriate to the specific role being appointed to and appropriate level of experienceand evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role
  • Higher degree / Microsoft/Oracle Certification / DSDM / Agile certification
  • Experience of BI solutions/software development, experience of working with large database systems, experience of the complete systems lifecycle
  • Providing advice on technical aspects of systems development
  • Providing software and systems support, requirement gathering, analysis and testing of systems
  • Familiarisation with Student administration systems - Tribal SITS Vision in particular
  • Experience of online analytical processing (OLAP) and extensive practical experience of SQL scripting
  • Dynamic Systems Development Method / Agile experience
  • Development and support experience of self-service BI tools such as QlikView, QlikSense or Power BI
  • Support of aforementioned BI portal products
  • Good understanding of systems development life cycles (SDLC) and ability to communicate complex technical ideas to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and advocacy skills and ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure on own initiative
  • Trained to work with a recognised enterprise level reporting tools e.g. QlikView/Qlik Sense, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, etc
  • Able to use statistical or query language such as SQL, SAS, R or equivalent
  • Customer focussed, flexible and creative approach to work
