Leads the design, development and operational support of project-specific and function-wide data science applications and tools using statistical, machine learning and/or AI methodologies. Displays a sound level of competence in a range of modelling and development methodologies and will often act as a point of reference for others. Maintains awareness of new developments in application development and data science methodologies.Typical Accountabilities

  • Develops data and analytics solutions to support all functions within Bioprocess Development to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Translates unstructured, complex problems into the appropriate data problem, models and analytics solutions
  • Acts as a technical specialist supporting the delivery of data science tools and applications
  • Acts as a source of knowledge in area of expertise, defining and presenting meaningful initiatives across departments and functions
  • Develops novel data science solutions where off-the-shelf methodologies do not fit
  • Test and quality assess new data and analytics solutions to ensure they are fit for release
  • Visualisation and representation of data or analytics output in order to convey insight
  • Implements tools and algorithms in a manner which meets regulatory and evidential requirements
  • Innovates and tests new technologies with relevance to data and analytics, including proof of technology/value assessments and business case development
  • Mentors and supports scientists to drive the development of data science as an AstraZeneca capability
  • Review and develop working practices to ensure that data science work is delivered to robust quality standards
  • Education/ Qualifications/ Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • Bachelors degree in a rigorous quantitative science (e.g. mathematics, computer science, engineering or statistics)
  • Significant experience in application development, deployment and maintenance
  • Significant experience with technologies such as .NET and C#6 and VBA
  • Significant experience in the development and rollout of models to multiple users
  • Experience in data manipulation, processing and preparation
  • Significant experience in SQL database design, maintenance and querying
  • Experience with data science scripting languages such as Python and/or R
  • Proficiency or proven experience, in data engineer techniques
  • Proficiency or proven experience with good software development practices within a regulated industry
  • Desirable
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative science
  • Proven experience with data in large, complex data settings
  • Experience with .Net technologies passionate about databases and distributed applications, e.g. WPF, WCF and Entity Frameworks
  • Experience working in life sciences, especially BioPharmaceuticals
  • Proficiency or proven experience with good software development practices within a regulated industry
