Job Description

My client; a specialist manufacturer and distributor to the civils & drainage sectors; have a need for an experienced Area Sales Manager to cover East Anglia and the Home Counties. Reporting to the National Sales Manager you will be responsible for the following:

  • To develop the area and sales strategy in order to support the overall strategic growth and vision of the business.
  • To create, build and maintain strong working relationships with key contractors and senior managers/owners.
  • To manage a profitable and successful area, effectively and professionally.
  • To meet or exceed sales budgets for the area. To actively grow and attain set budgets.
  • Target key contractors within the area to back sell on support of our distributors, also gaining specification or product approval.
  • Target senior managers, directors and owners within each business and work proactively to develop strong working relationships.
  • Manage and increase a customer database for the area.
  • Create a call plan for each customer, town and county and proactively manage customers effectively.
  • Carry out product training as required with relevant merchants and contractors where necessary.
  • Report to National Sales Manager on any competitor activity, pricing issues and any other relevant detail e.g., market or product information.
  • Seek out opportunities to develop new markets or customers.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction is maintained at a high level.
  • Use tools provided to manage own time ensuring effective planning, full area coverage and regular call cycles are maintained.
  • Submit on time weekly whereabouts, monthly mileage and expenses to the Sales Director. Any expenditure on credit cards must be authorised by the Sales Director prior to the commencement of an event.
  • Performance Review Development plans to be submitted to the National Sales Manager for review at the end of each quarter.
  • Deputise for the National Sales Manager and other colleagues as and when the need arises e.g., exhibitions and conferences.
  • Provide a monthly report no later than requested providing activity in your defined area. Also provide goals for following month containing KPI update.
  • Communicate on a daily/regular basis to discuss activity within your defined area.
  • Build your own database consisting of address, key contact with details. Make available to all team members.
  • Regularly monitor leakage of sales with software provided (QlikView) and discuss any up and downturn in sales with National Sales Manager and account.
  • Make sure the company vehicle is clean, driven safely and economically and also ensuring it is maintained on a regular basis. Any incidents or accidents must be reported in a timely manner.
  • Carry out any other duties as defined by the National Sales Manager or Sales Director.
  • Work in a safe manner to ensure the safety of self and others and highlight any issues to the QHSE Manager and Area Safety Representative.
  • Comply with processes and procedures to ensure that the Company achieves it goal to continually improve its environmental performance.
