Job Description

Derbyshire Pathology – Chesterfield Royal Hospital SiteBand 5/6 BMS Haematology & Blood TransfusionWe are inviting applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to join our friendly and hardworking team in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.Derbyshire Pathology is a partnership between the departments of Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Royal Derby Hospital, providing a wide range of services for both Trusts and Derbyshire GP’s, serving a population of over 1 million. Our diagnostic services are on both sites and this post is based at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital site.You will be based in the Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion sections within the combined Blood Sciences laboratory. You will help to deliver technical excellence; attention to detail and a professional attitude in this busy department is crucial. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in haematology, coagulation and/or blood transfusion.This is a shift position and once in post the successful candidate will be working towards achieving competencies to join the 24/7 shift system; carrying out night, late, early and weekend shifts. Experience and/or ability to work autonomously for long periods of time at varying start and finish times is essential. In the absence of experience, a commitment to proactively work towards this and an awareness of the requirements is needed.This is an exciting time to join Derbyshire Pathology and proactive individuals, with drive and dedication will excel in this post. Involvement in quality management activities and various projects will be expected, so an aptitude with Microsoft Office programs is preferable. Experience of using Qpulse would be an advantage.Our modern Laboratories are well equipped with a Sysmex XN9000 line in haematology; with 2 XN 10’s and an XN20 that has extended white cell precursor counting and fluorescent platelet counting. A DI-60 and TS-10 complete the line to give a comprehensive haematology system. Other analysers in the automated laboratory include Starrsed ESR analyser and Sysmex coagulation analysers. Blood film morphology is a key activity in Haematology and candidates will be required to possess competence in this area, or be able to demonstrate a desire and ability to learn.The Blood Transfusion department have 2 Biorad IH1000 blood grouping analysers and the Bloodhound electronic tracking system for blood and blood products.We have full UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189:2012. To help maintain our full UKAS accreditation the successful candidate will be involved in service development including verification of equipment, auditing, and reviewing of documents.As part of a University Hospital the training and development of staff is one of our five Trust objectives. You will be provided with support in your professional career development and encouraged to be involved in the development of others. Both The Royal Derby Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital are accredited as training laboratories by the IBMS for both registration and specialist portfolios.We welcome applications from experienced candidates, but also candidates that are working towards their Institute of Biomedical Science Specialist Portfolio.
