Vehicle Maintenance Fitter / Mechanic

Our Local Authority client is currently seeking qualified and experienced Vehicle Maintenance Fitters in Caerphilly - pay is negotiable for the right candidates.Job Purpose* Inspect and maintain Authoritys fleet of vehicles, hired vehicles, and plant and equipment; and to undertake all mechanical and electrical repairs to VOSA and manufactures standards in line with Councils policies. * Repair and maintain the Authoritys refuse vehicles, sweepers and gritting vehicles including all mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems, in accordance with the manufactures recommendations. * Work to schedule of rates contract times and record all necessary documentation required in line with the Authoritys procedures.Qualifications * Relevant City and Guilds or Level 3 qualifications or qualifications at a similar level.Knowledge * Extensive knowledge of commercial vehicle repairs, servicing and maintenance. * Good knowledge of municipal vehicle repair and fault diagnostics. * Good knowledge of HGV repairs and light commercials.Key Areas * Efficiently and effectively diagnose faults on chassis and body equipment for a range of vehicles quickly and accurately. * Carry out repairs according to customer requirements within schedule of rates timeframes and manufacturer and VOSA standards ensuring limited customer downtime. * Remove and replace components on both chassis and municipal equipment. * Service and prepare vehicles for MOT or Plating testsDutiesTo undertake work as directed by the Workshop Supervisor or Chargehands. Duties will include: * Driving vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes, and HGV vehicles with appropriate license. * Prepare vehicles to MOT and Plating standards. * Carry out Inspections and repairs to all types of vehicles and Plant. * Keep workshop clean and orderly, and tools securely locked up when not in use. * Attend breakdowns and repair on site when able or recover vehicles to the depot * Work within Schedule of rates repair times. * Repair vehicles including Hydraulics, Electrics, Pneumatics and Body work and Welding as required. * Duties will include reactive repairs and planned service work. * Service and repairs will be carried in the most efficient and cost effective manner. * Ensure all paperwork is completed in line with departmental procedures and Quality Standards and passed on for inputting to Authoritys fleet management system as soon as practicable. * Work within health & safety guidelines and have a responsibility for the health and safety of all fellow staff when undertaking with duties. * Work to Quality Manual standards and procedures. * Work with minimum supervision. * Actively seek to improve job knowledge inside your work area. * Prepared to work on a shift basis as required to cover workshop opening times. * Attend work on a daily basis and to agreed hours within the hourly paid terms and conditions. * Must be prepared to undertake training in product related areas, and on health and safety issues. * Fitters are responsible for the vehicles and plant they are repairing, and for the security of the vehicles when parking them in the yard when completed. * Fitters must be able to give a reasonable estimated downtime of vehicles undergoing repairs.Acorn Recruitment Ltd is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.
