Job Description

Opportunity for a technical buyer to join a global manufacturing company that has been trading for over 70 years. They are specialists in developing bespoke solutions to meet their customers requirements and they have experienced significant growthin recent years.You will work closely with the purchasing manager and the wider purchasing team to assist in the procurement and purchasing of materials for the manufacturing function. The role will focus on the reading of technical and engineering drawings to determinerequirements for each project and you will have the opportunity to work closely with and shadow an experienced senior buyer to gain company and industry-specific knowledge from them.The company is also willing to consider candidates from a technical or hands-on manufacturing background who have not had the buying or purchasing experience but would hold the required technical knowledge and ability to identify parts and components andestablish material requirements from technical and engineering drawings.Technical buyer responsibilities will include:

  • Reading and understanding technical and engineering drawings to determine material requirements
  • Source materials and ensure that the most economically advantageous deal is secured for the company
  • Being a point of contact for supplier problem resolution
  • Ensuring that supply chain processes and procedures are followed and adhered to
  • Monitoring of orders to ensure materials/services are supplied within agreed timescales.
  • Working closely with suppliers to resolve any issues relating to delivery timescales
  • Ensuring all documentation is kept up to date
  • Collating and assessing information relating to supplier performance
To apply for the technical buyer position, you will need:
  • The ability to read and understand engineering or technical drawings
  • Previous experience of working in a purchasing function in a manufacturing or technical environment is desirable
  • An understanding of BOMs is desirable
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to negotiate to secure the best deal for the company
