Job Description

About the roleWe have an excellent opportunity for a Lead Accountant to join us at our DS Smith Business Services Centre in Caerphilly. The main purpose of the role is to assist in the delivery of a world class accounting service to the UK Packaging business.This will involve performing general accounting and reporting activities on behalf of the business in accordance with Group Accounting Policies and service level requirements. The position will require an understanding of business process, and will requireinteraction with the P2P and C&C departments within the Business Services Centre to ensure that all processes are understood and supported.Within this role youll be accountable for:

  • Managing the production of appropriate and timely month end activities, including reporting, analysis and metrics
  • Responsibility for controlling designated financial reporting for sites under your control
  • Working in conjunction with other members of the team to continuously improve processing and reporting
  • Liaising and supporting Group and Divisional requirements
  • Dealing with auditors and year end within the period cycle activates
  • Working with and/or lead user groups in implementing standardised processes and improvements across the board
  • Supporting Business Services initiatives including cross-departmental projects and work transfer activities
  • Guiding, monitoring and being responsible for the work and performance of team members
About you
  • Experienced accountant with up to date knowledge to apply accounting standards (UKGAAP/IFRS)
  • Keen to develop, ideally part-qualified (ACCA/ACA/CIMA)
  • Experience using ERP systems, including QAD and SAP
  • Track record of providing accounting/reporting services
  • An interest in managing and mentoring a small team
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and shared service environments would be advantageous
