Job Description

Are you seeking an exciting role as an Education Welfare OfficerJob: Education Welfare OfficerSalary £17 - £19.50 per hourLocation: BromleyIn this fulfilling and diverse position, your duties will encompass:

  • Supervising Educational Welfare throughout the academy
  • Managing a caseload of students deemed at risk due to attendance below 85%, and devising strategies to enhance attendance
  • Overseeing the attendance of the most vulnerable students at the academy, including Looked after students, those on the child protection register, and children identified as being in need
  • Administering measures to address inadequate attendance academy-wide
  • Representing the academy in external gatherings such as Social Services Case Conferences, Child in Need Meetings, LAC Reviews
  • Directly supervising the Attendance Officer
  • Coordinating with the Academy Leadership Group to tackle attendance or welfare issues
  • Contributing to the efficient operation of the student information centre (SIC), ensuring student support contributes positively to academic progress
  • Maintaining effective communication with external agencies, including potential alternative providers
  • Ensuring proactive and appropriate communication/consultation with parents via phone, letter, and home visits as necessary
  • Collaborating with the local authority in cases where poor attendance necessitates legal intervention, managing evidence sharing and representing the academy in court when required
  • Generating reports and managing records related to student referrals and subsequent counselling or support
Qualifications & BackgroundWe are seeking candidates who possess:
  • An undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with behaviour for learning policies
  • Understanding of the various obstacles to student learning
  • Training in child protection and safeguarding procedures
  • Basic first aid knowledge (e.g., completion of emergency first aid course)
  • Three years experience in a pastoral role within an inner-city school or educational institution
  • Proven track record of addressing issues contributing to poor attendance
  • Experience in collaborating with staff to uphold high standards of attendance and punctuality
  • History of working closely with families
  • Experience in engaging with challenging students and parents, and identifying more effective methods to meet their needs"
