Job Description

Defra is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy. Our broad remit means we play a major role in peoples day-to-day life, from the food we eat, and the air we breathe, to the water we drink.Our Digital Data and Technology Services (DDTS) function is currently undertaking a once in a generation transformation and whilst we are already well underway on this journey, we are looking for more people to come and join us.We are currently recruiting for a ServiceNow junior system administrator.Please be aware this role will require travel to our Bristol or Reading hubs.Job descriptionThis role is a junior role in a team which provides support for a critical service known as myIT that is used by Defra’s employees and strategic IT suppliers.The core team of ServiceNow system administrators and developers manage and deliver this service to the business through the integration of interdependent supplier services upon which Defra is entirely dependent on for their Information Technology needs.This role involves supporting and maintaining our ServiceNow (myIT) instance by carrying out but not limited to the following activities:Responsibilities• Providing end user support by triaging and troubleshooting issues assigned to the team, escalating to senior colleagues where required to ensure the optimum solution and service is provided.• Support continual enhancements to the ServiceNow product in response to requirements.• Liaising and communicating with our users.• Carrying out regular, pre-defined data imports to support the operational processes established with the SACM team and suppliers.• User Access Management - setting up, modifying and removing user accounts.• Maintaining foundation data ensuring it is accurate across all environments.• Undertaking user acceptance testing for new or changed functionality.• Creating dashboards and reports as needed to support operational and business requirements.• Contribute to the building of the "knowledge-bases"The ServiceNow Junior System Administrator maybe expected to work outside of normal hours occasionally to support the weekly releasesPerson specificationThe successful candidate will have knowledge and some experience of the ServiceNow core product suite, such as ITSM and CSM and system administrator skills:• Maintaining Catalogue and Configuration Items in the ServiceNow® application.• Exposure to developing surveys, reports, homepages and dashboards.• Having the ability to investigate and resolve issues in a complex technology environment.• Experience of working with and understanding user needs.• Passion to proactively seek out improvements.• Appetite to learn and self-develop within an IT environment.• Having the ability to work in a fast-changing environment.• Being comfortable working with members of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.Qualifications• ServiceNow Administration level 1
