Job Description

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor - IntermediateLocation: BristolSalary - Competitive (depending on experience)The CompanyEstablished construction firm in Bristol has a vacancy for a permanent Quantity Surveyor - Intermediate level.Responsibilities:As a Quantity Surveyor (intermediate) your role will encompass various aspects of quantity surveying and commercial management within the construction industry. Your responsibilities will include:1. Cost Estimation and Budgeting:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Assist in developing project budgets and cost plans.
  • Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to optimize project costs.
  • Monitor and control project expenditures throughout the construction lifecycle.
2. Quantity Take-off and Measurement:
  • Perform quantity take-off and measurement from architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and schedules of quantities.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure accurate quantity assessments.
  • Evaluate variations and changes in project scope and quantify their impact on costs.
3. Procurement and Tendering:
  • Assist in the procurement process, including preparing tender documents, conducting tender analysis, and making recommendations.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals and negotiate contracts.
  • Prepare and administer contracts, including managing variations and claims.
4. Cost Control and Reporting:
  • Monitor project costs against budgeted amounts.
  • Identify and analyse cost variances and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Prepare regular cost reports for project stakeholders, highlighting cost trends and forecasts.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly progress payment applications and cost reconciliations.
5. Risk Management:
  • Identify and assess project risks related to costs and contracts.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and recommend appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Monitor and report on contractual compliance and potential risks.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with project teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, to ensure effective cost management.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders to address cost-related issues and provide progress updates.
7. Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, industry standards, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, including contracts, change orders, and cost documentation.
  • Prepare and review claims and dispute resolution documentation as needed.
8. Cost Value Reconciliation
  • Prepare and update CVR reports to analyse project profitability.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide forecasts to ensure effective financial management.
  • Analyse and track project variations and their impact on cost projections.
9. Post-Contract Administration:
  • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of final accounts.
  • Handle claims, variations, and settlement of disputes in collaboration with the project team.
  • Conduct cost analysis for project closeout and provide financial recommendations.
Skills:
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying techniques and measurement.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and procurement processes
  • Familiarity with regulations and standards.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in using MS Office Suite and relevant quantity surveying software
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional membership or working towards membership with a recognized Quantity Surveying institution (e.g., RICS, CIOB).
Work Experience:
  • Experience in the retail sector preferred but not essential. Day release will be considered Will also consider Assistant QS who has experience and ready to take the next step.
  • Experience working on construction projects within the UK market preferable
  • Proficient in preparing cost estimates, Bills of Quantities, and contract administration
