Job Description

Unite Students have a fantastic opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our highly regarded national Project Delivery team. Reporting into the Commercial Manager, youll be assisting with the delivery of the commercial aspects of all the projects undertakenby the Project Delivery team.This will include preparing and distributing tender information, cost estimating and benchmarking, inflation forecasting, cost control, reporting on all financial aspects from inception through to practical completion. This rolewill support in implementing build contracts and manage project budgets according to Board approved levels.What you`ll be doing

  • Providing initial cost advice to aid in the assessment of potential transformation works.
  • Preparing accurate construction cost appraisals and establish the project budget
  • Managing the project cost plan from inception, through contract award, to practical completion
  • Being commercially responsible for onsite schemes, including cost reporting, valuations, cash flows, dispute resolution, cost control and account management
  • Managing monthly cash flow
  • Agreeing final account in line with Board approved budget
  • Managing retentions, bonds, warranties and other contractual documents
  • Overseeing capital allowances reporting and monitoring
  • Manage and develop relationships with framework contractors and consultants
  • Providing strategic input on process, design and delivery of a project including, value engineering, risk and programme
  • Appointing external consultants and managing them to ensure best value
  • Supporting the selection of the contractor to work with the Project team
  • Work alongside the Commercial Manager in the tender / negotiation process, and appoint contractors in good time
What we`re looking for in you
  • Experience in a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management role, preferably for a contractor, though client side also considered
  • Experience with the creation and distribution of tender information and contractual documents
  • RICS accredited degree
  • Ability to commercially manage all aspects of projects
  • Demonstrable strong negotiation skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possesses a positive and collegiate attitude, with the ability to adapt swiftly and a willingness to undertake challenging tasks to ensure customer/ stakeholder satisfaction
  • Self motivated and possessing the ability to work on own initiative and also within a team
  • Evidence of working in a fast paced, high change environment and able to manage multiple demands effectively
  • A quick learner, demonstrates a capability and willingness to acquire and apply new skills and learning
  • Well developed communication and influencing skills, able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a willingness to participate and present in meetings at various levels
  • Ability to build relationships and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to travel throughout the UK with a full driving licence
