Job Description

Reporting to: Head of Project ManagementThe Programme Manager for Transformation is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project/Programme Manager to play a key role in helping transform the way the business works and delivers change.The role will programme manage the different initiatives within Transformation in order to ensure the programmes of change are aligned to the outcomes needed and expected by the business, and also that they remain aligned to expectations in terms of costs, resources, timing and delivery.The key remit of this role is to ensure current and future Transformation projects are delivered in line with best practice, align to the HL change framework and support the overall Transformation strategic objectives.Importantly, this role will also act as Change Lead to the Strategic Transformation programme, ensuring alignment and communication of the programme to the responsible executives, central PMO, and relevant governance committees.Key Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Working with members of HL’s senior management team to set and evolve the objectives for the group of projects within the transformation programme.
  • Communicating the programme strategy to the Project Managers to ensure that individual project goals align with this strategy, and supporting them in the delivery.
  • Planning and designing the programme and proactively monitoring its progress, resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective action.
  • Managing the programmes budget, working closely with the Transformation Finance Lead, monitoring expenditure and costs against delivered and realised benefits as the programme progresses.
  • Defining the programmes governance arrangements, ways of working, and roles and responsibilities.
  • Managing both the dependencies, risks and the interfaces between projects.
  • Ensuring there is allocation and leveling of common resources and skills within the programmes individual projects.
  • Reporting the progress of the programme at regular intervals to the sponsor and directing committees. Eg. Monthly ExCo updates and Quarterly True-ups.
  • Managing communications with all stakeholders at a programme level.
  • Working with the business and people team on the evolution of ways of working, and the transition to the new business as usual’ position.
  • Initiating extra activities and other management interventions wherever gaps in the programme are identified or issues arise.
  • Sufficient seniority and credibility to advise project teams on their projects in relation to the programme
  • The ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems
  • Requirements Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Proven experience having delivered at least 2 programmes (£3M+)
  • At least 8 years project or programme management experience
  • Professional Qualification in Project or Portfolio Management.
  • Good knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes
  • Good understanding of the procurement process including negotiation with third parties
  • Good knowledge of programme and project management methods including MSP
  • Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
  • Leadership, stakeholder management, budgeting and planning
  • Up-to-date evidence of effective portfolio management and governance
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to co-ordinate, motivate and supervise colleagues.
  • Ability to challenge constructively as necessary
  • Desirable Skills & Experience:
  • Agile experience in managing programmes in an agile workplace and/or managing programmes that contain Agile projects within.
  • Experience delivering Agile projects
  • Agile toolset (Jira, Confluence, etc.)
  • Knowledge of procurement and vendor management
