Job Description

Principal Electrical EngineerBristol or GlasgowPermanent £65,000 - £70,000 BriefPrincipal Electrical Engineer needed for a specialist engineering consultancy with offices based in Bristol and Glasgow who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Principal Electrical Engineer that takes pride in their work with extensive experience undertaking a range of projects across several sectors such as civil, nuclear, defence, energy.The successful candidate would desirably have a relevant degree - i.e. MSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, and currently hold Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. You will be expected to take up a technical leadership position and balance your time across multiple projects, so like-for-like experience is highly desired!What the role entails:Some of the main duties of the Principal Electrical Engineer will include:

  • Delivery of innovation projects in the transmission and distribution sector, taking new systems and technologies from concept through to delivery.
  • High voltage AC and DC electrical power and distribution system design, including power system / grid connection studies.
  • Managing the production, verification and approval of: electrical reports, specifications, and detailed design drawings.
  • Specialist equipment support, for example: generators, transformers, switchgear, cables.
  • Managing a project team to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget.
  • Client facing to develop requirements and negotiating contracts / agreements, and progress reporting and risk management.
  • Mentoring and development of electrical engineers.
    • What experience you need to be the successful Principal Electrical Engineer:Essential:
  • Have up to date knowledge and experience in the electrical discipline in particular relation to the following:
  • Electrical Design (FEED and Design Specification)
  • Verification of design/substantiation deliverables
  • Transmission and Distribution
  • Industrial and Energy
  • Private Wire Networks / Micro Grids
  • Experience with working to the requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Private Wire Networks / Micro Grids
  • Marine Power System Design
  • HVDC
  • Power Electronics
  • Earthing Schemes
  • Power Systems Asset Management ISO 55001 Certified
  • Power System Modelling (Digsilent, ETAP, Amtech, SimPowerSystems)
  • Interfacing with Regulators (ONR, Ofgem, ORR, etc)
