Job Description

PMLD Teaching AssistantExperience in the field of special educational needs in general and emotional and behavioural difficulties, in particular, would be advantageous to support your application for this role as this school in particular has many students with PMLD - Profound andmultiple learning difficulties. Some examples of suitable knowledge for the role would be as follows:

  • Sensory processing and development
  • Positive reinforcements
  • Alternative/non-verbal communication such as; Makaton, Symbolics and PECs
  • Physical care and support
  • Personal care
  • Feeding
  • Autism Awareness
  • Holistic approaches to learning
  • Life skills education
  • Inclusive practice
This role can be demanding at times but also very rewarding. If you are willing to learn more to succeed in this role, Five Education also offers free training courses through the charity Bibic for our staff to learn about; managing behaviour, autism, dyslexia,dyspraxia & dysgraphia and understanding sensory processing. Responsibilities and duties:
  • Guiding students - Supporting 1:1 and/or small groups of pupils
  • Supporting a wide range of ages
  • Build trusting and constructive relationships with pupils
  • Be a team player - Work with the school to ensure the best support and care
  • Encourage engagement and development in childs learning
  • Set challenges to promote self-esteem and independence
  • Provide feedback to both teachers and pupils
  • Encourage socialisation and good behaviour by being patient and empathetic

  • Valid/relevant DBS
  • Two recent references
  • 10 years (or nearest) work history
