We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Disputes & Contentious Risk team, part of the wider HL Legal TeamAs Legal Counsel you will join a collaborative, supportive legal team with great ideas and ambitions for the future of HL and supporting HLs strategy. We provide legal advice, support and challenge across the HL Group and manage legal risks using commercial,legal, and business partnering skills, to ensure HL meets its legal and regulatory obligations.The Legal Counsel role is varied and involves engaging on a wide range of projects with different areas of the business. As a qualified solicitor, you will be providing contentious regulatory advice to the business, including supporting the legal team withmanaging litigation, advising on complex complaints, and ensuring effective management of regulatory legal risk across the business.What youll be doingSupporting the Legal Team to:

• Provide contentious regulatory and disputes advice to the business.
• Respond to complex regulatory complaints, including complaints referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
• Conduct legal research into Financial Ombudsman Service decisions and other relevant regulatory developments to assist with managing contentious legal risk.
• Manage litigation and legal risk arising from complex regulatory issues.
• Implement and maintain appropriate policies and procedures to ensure good practice and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Support senior members of the legal team by delivering training, ad hoc research activities and cross-functional project initiatives.
• Manage the development of cost effective and efficient legal processes, including working effectively with external specialist legal counsel.
• Assist with other ad-hoc projects and duties required by the Legal team and General Counsel.

About you

• Qualified solicitor (2-4 years PQE) with commercial or practice experience
• Sound knowledge of retail financial services law
• Experience of litigation and/or working with the Financial Ombudsman Service
• Strong drafting and legal research skills
• Operate with gravitas to instil confidence when engaging with stakeholders across the organisation
• Proactive, organised and self-sufficient, able to effectively prioritise
• Demonstrate resilience and ability to work in a fast paced and changeable environment
• Collaborative, able to work in a team or alone to achieve common goals

Interview processThis will be a two-stage interview process where you will have the opportunity to meet team members and senior stakeholders. The interviews will consist of competency and behavioural based questions and a task.Working ScheduleWe are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team, based in Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
