Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a proactive and collaborative Finance Assistant on a fixed term basis to work in the Finance Operations team for a 8-month contract.The Finance Assistant will work within the Banking team whilst providing support to Billing, Credit Control and Accounts Payable. The role will need to develop an understanding of the core tasks performed by each of the sub teams, so has to be able to applytheir knowledge as and when required. They will look for continuous improvement opportunities to further improve the Finance Operations processes.In this busy role, working quickly and efficiently is key while still maintaining accuracy and high standards of customer service. This role thrives on working collaboratively with other members of the team and staff around the business to ensure that allinvoices are properly created and allocated. A strong sense of customer service and adaptability in solving problems is essential to the role.What will you be doingKey job accountabilities include:

  • Raising invoices & processing credit notes and refunds
  • Reconciliation of online credit card payment transactions
  • Carry out key recurring tasks for the credit control team, including:
  • Chasing overdue customer debt by email and occasionally by telephone or letter
  • Ensuring records of all debt chasing activities are kept up to date in the credit control system
  • Monitoring the department inboxes, responding to emails and dealing with queries
  • Keying manual payments and arranging their authorisation by managers
  • Posting bank transactions (receipts and payments) into the General Ledger
  • Producing month end bank reconciliations and investigating and resolving differences on bank reconciliations
  • Keying supplier invoices, and both external and employee expenses
  • Support compliance with Group procure-to-pay policies, including on expenses, Barclaycard use and delegated authority
  • Provide Ad Hoc support to the Finance Operations Managers with project work and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
About you:Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:
  • Suitable for someone who is AAT qualified, or part qualified, or who is interested in studying for AAT
  • A Levels or equivalent
  • Experience in a busy office environment essential with finance experience
  • Proven track record of providing excellent customer service
  • Supporting a range of customers across different locations within a complex environment
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement and providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to work independently, including taking a pro-active approach to finding and identifying the teams which have the greatest need for support
    • Exceptionally organised; able to deal with high volumes and deadlines in a time pressured environment
    • Good Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written
  • Passionate about continuous improvement; taking ownership for and developing processes
