Job Description

Summary The National Trust plans to invest in conservation over the next 10 years ensuring we continue to care for some of the most important historic buildings and gardens in England. As part of this we are developing new ways of working to ensure we look after our building’s effectively and efficiently. We need experienced and passionate building professionals to support this.We are looking for a Building Surveyor to apply their expertise in building conservation and maintenance to support the development of a regional Facilities Management team that will work seamlessly with wider building professionals to deliver our ‘looking after’ strategy.This is a pan-regional role that can be done from any of the hubs in the South West of England region. Travel will be required across the region. What youll be doing In this role you will support the development of a professional Facilities Management (FM) function in theSouth West Region. Underpinned by your skills and knowledge as a Building Surveyor you will help the FM community establish effective ways of working in line with our strategy for ‘looking after’ buildings at our special places.You will act as a focal point for FM personnel in the region, helping them understand the nature and scope of their responsibilities with regards building services, and where they should interface with the wider building surveying teams for additional support. You will help develop a regional FM community and act as a conduit between region and centre to drive best practice and feedback.You’ll champion use of our electronic asset management system to manage buildings, support improvement of building data within this, and provide feedback to regional management on levels of building compliance. You will help identify key building services where regional contracts could add value and support Contract Managers in establishing these.As a professional Building Surveyor, you may also be asked to apply your expertise to lead delivery of more technical maintenance and repair works in some cases. At all times you will be expected to work collaboratively with property clients and as part of a wider consultancy team. Who were looking for

  • A good knowledge of professional building consultancy across complex portfolios
  • You will be a full member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
  • A good understanding of planning and delivering a programme of works / project
  • An understanding of relevant legislation and best practice
  • A knowledge of contract appointment and administration
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, with great interpersonal skills
