Job Description

The RoleThe NPL Manager is part of the Collections, Recoveries and Restructuring team and will be primarily focused on the Asset Finance area within the Business Finance division. The role holder is responsible for supporting the Senior NPL Manager in defining and executing a clear strategy for NPLs, mitigating losses whilst ensuring we deliver a fair outcome for the client. The supporting strategy will need to be tailored based on the client’s circumstances and may include restructuring the existing facility.Reporting into the Bank’s Business Services function, the role holder will be required to work closely with the Business Finance first line and Credit Risk teams to ensure business expertise is utilised to deliver an appropriate and fair outcome.We have the flexibilty to base this role in either our Redhill, Brentwood or London office, although the role will require weekly travel to Redhill, Surrey.Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the direct management/or supporting existing Frontline Relationship Managers Team in the management of individual NPLs within the Business Finance (BF) division. This includes both the design and execution of the supporting recovery / restructuring strategy at an individual case level.
  • Responsible for identifying customers’ needs in relation to forbearance and establishing their ability to repay.
  • Support the implementation of a robust process for identification of early warning indicators and subsequent response.
  • Working closely with the Collections and Recoveries Managers, Credit Risk and the first line teams, responsible for the management and production of the Business Finance Watch List reported to both local and group impairment committees; ensuring the appropriate strategy and impairment coverage is in place for each case.
  • Support Credit Risk with the implementation of impairment requirements under IFRS9 and to ensure that the interim approach for assessing impairment is effective and robust.
  • Full understanding and delivery of the Group Impairment, Forbearance, Vulnerable Customer, Arrears Management and Credit Stewardship policies which are relevant to the role.
  • Oversee, direct and advise first line colleagues in relation to individual case management.
  • Support the Head of Collections and Recoveries, Business Finance in the design of a longer term structure and plan for high value NPLs and restructuring which will support the longer term growth plans within Business Finance.
  • Provide input into the provision of lessons learnt’ to be fed back to the underwriting teams and input to
  • Attend and input to the Bank’s periodic program of Asset Quality reviews.
  • Preparation of papers for approval, noting or discussion at the Bank’s various Executive and Non-Executive Risk Committees.
  • Following up outstanding action points from Risk Committees.
  • Support Audit work, includes both internal and external.
  • Investigate criminal allegations or offences of fraud.
  • Support litigation with follow-up reports/due diligence.
  • Liaise with external agencies when required.
  • Report to Financial Crime Unit regarding Suspicious Activity Reports
  • The Person
  • Extensive experience of problem loan management in a commercial banking environment. Specific experience in relation to SME / corporate lending required.
  • Experience of consumer and property NPLs is an advantage.
  • Ideally a minimum of 10 years’ background of operating and managing within a C&R / Credit Risk control environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years direct previous experience of Corporate /SME problem loan management
