Job Description

Site Name: UK - London - BrentfordPosted Date: Aug 18 2020UK Country Medical DirectorLocation: GSK House, Brentford, UK ViiV Healthcare are an independent, global, specialist HIV company that are committed to delivering innovative new options for the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS.Established in 2009 through a unique partnership between GSK and Pfizer, ViiV Healthcare combines the HIV expertise of GSK, Pfizer and Shionogi, who joined in 2012 following a long-term collaboration on the joint development of several novel integrase inhibitors.We are currently looking for a Medical Director to lead the UK Medical Affairs team within ViiV Healthcare.

  • Responsibilities:You will provide leadership of the ViiV UK Medical Affairs team in order to deliver the broader company innovation/ performance/ trust/ culture (‘IPTc’) objectives. Acting as a member of the ViiV UK Leadership Team you will be responsible for developing and delivering local, annual tactical plans and to ensure appropriate oversight and governance of daily activities aligned with ViiV values and expectations.
  • Leading the office-based and field-based Medical teams you will develop and execute external scientific engagement activities with specific reference to interactions with and data presentations to Key, National and Regional External Experts, NHS bodies and commissioners, formulary decision makers, national and local decision makers, any other healthcare professional (HCP) requesting such information and patient advocacy groups.
  • You will oversee medical support for promotional activities, including promotional speaker engagements involving UK HCPs, through copy approval, reactive off-license responses, and insight generation.
  • You will support the pipeline progression, preparation and development of launch plans of new products into the UK market plus ensure Medical representation and collaboration with Health Economics & Outcomes activities in support of NICE, SMC and AWMSG submissions.
  • You will ensure engagement with investigators to assess requests for Independent Sponsored Studies (ISS) and joint working projects and you will champion agreed requests through the ViiV approval system. You will ensure continued dialogue with investigators with regards to progress of ViiV sponsored initiatives and ensure that patient benefit and safety is paramount in any ViiV sponsored initiatives.
  • You will work constructively with parent company GSK in line with service-level agreements and assigned responsibilities, including the management of Safety, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information and Regulatory activities across the UK.
  • You will ensure engagement for local applications to global Named Patient/ Compassionate Use Programmes.
  • You will oversee the ViiV Grants and Donations and Independent Medical Education activities in the UK.
  • As a member of the European Medical Lead Team, you will share accountability for achieving the RDGM Directorate business objectives. You will maintain and leverage effective relationships with above-country RDGM colleagues to ensure that UK influence is appropriately reflected in European plans. Additionally, you will ensure insights from customers are fed back to the organisation to both impact local promotional activities but also to ensure the direction of Phase II and III development plans being conducted by R&D are planned and generated to facilitate UK / European market access.
  • Ensuring internal compliance and adherence to SOPs relating to scientific engagement activities, and compliance externally with regulatory bodies and the ABPI.
  • Providing leadership in meeting the requirements of the ABPI Code of Practice, all SOP’s and GCP guidelines and their implementation in a consistent manner across ViiV.
  • Preparing and managing budgets, headcount plans and forecasts, workload and productivity of staff to meet plans agreed.
  • Flexibly utilising and developing the skills of the Medical team through the personal and professional development of team members.
  • Skills & Experience:
  • Medical doctor, preferably registered in UK or EU
  • Experience of HIV preferred
  • Pharmaceutical industry or regulatory experience, to include ideally a mix of Medical Affairs and clinical research
  • In depth experience of applying the ABPI Code of Practice
  • Ability to understand and prioritise business objectives in the context of the external environment, working collaboratively with commercial colleagues
  • Proven project management capabilities, with ability to lead and inspire, bringing others with them
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to create an agile team
  • Ability to work to SOP’s and relevant statutory and regulatory requirements (e.g. Medicines Act, ABPI Code of Practice, ICH, EC Directives)
  • Ability to network and build relationships (across ViiV UK, Europe, Global R&D and externally) and parent company thus achieving credibility and influence
