Public Health England exists to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities. We do this through world-leading science, knowledge and intelligence, advocacy, partnerships and the delivery of specialist public health services. We are an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care, and a distinct delivery organisation with operational autonomy. We provide government, local government, the NHS, Parliament, industry and the public with evidence-based professional, scientific and delivery expertise and support.The main duties of the post are related to PHE’s response to the COVID-19 incident and will work within the incident response as part of the International Cell. This cell comprises the International Epidemiology team (Int Epi), the Travel Health risk assessment team and the UK International Health Regulations National Focal Point (IHRNFP). This role is one of a team of Scientists working within the International Cell and will have responsibility for a) gathering international epidemiology and intelligence to inform the Incident Management Team (IMT) and other parts of government (Int Epi role), b) informing travel risk assessment and advice provided by National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) and cross government (Travel risk assessment team) and c) for international contact tracing, gathering information on key response measures and liaison and communication with various stakeholders under the IHR (2005) requirements (UK IHR NFP role).Candidates should have the following minimum qualifications: First degree in a relevant science subject and be aware they may be asked to work shift patterns, that includes weekends and evenings.Candidates are asked to note that the job description is going through evaluation and maybe subject to minor change.This advert may close in 5 days if sufficient applications are received.Successful candidates not offered a posting will be placed on the reserve list which will be held for 12 months.
