Job Description

Start a rewarding and fulfilling career in special education.Main Purpose of the Job: To provide support in facilitating access to learning for pupils and assisting teachers in managing the classroom. The role includes ensuring the safety of children, promoting respectful behavior, and contributingto a positive learning environment.Key Activities/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the supervision of students, work experience, trainees, and voluntary helpers.
  • Work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff, reporting to the Assistant Head for Inclusion.
  • Make decisions using initiative within established working practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information related to the school, pupils, parents, and carers.
  • Supervise and support pupils, ensuring safety and access to learning.
  • Implement personal programs, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare matters.
  • Encourage positive interactions and inclusion among pupils.
  • Prepare classrooms for lessons and assist with the display of pupils work.
  • Report pupil problems/progress/achievements to teachers.
  • Provide clerical/admin. support (photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money, etc.).
Specific Conditions of Service:
  • 27.5 hours per week (8:30 am - 4:00 pm, hours agreed with school management).
  • Work with groups of 6-8 pupils under the teachers direction.
  • Undertake planned learning activities and keep records.
Qualifications and Training:
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent eg. Adult Literacy/Numeracy at level 2
  • Fluency and proficiency in spoken English.
  • Understanding the needs of children with Autism and SEN.
Other:
  • No holiday leave during term time.
  • Legally entitled to work in the UK.
  • Satisfactory vetting, including an enhanced disclosure from DBS.
Note: Training will be provided, and some experience in family-related roles is helpful but not mandatory.
