Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Do you thrive in challenging environments and have experience dealing with behavior management If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!About the Role:As a Teaching Assistant in SEMH schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), you will play a crucial role in creating a positive and supportive learning environment for students facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Supporting Students: Working closely with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, providing academic and emotional support.
  2. Behavior Management: Implementing strategies to manage challenging behavior, ensuring a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.
  3. De-escalation: Using effective de-escalation techniques to defuse tense situations and promote student well-being.
  4. Collaboration: Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to develop tailored interventions and support plans.
  5. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assisting in assessing student progress and adapting strategies accordingly.
Requirements:To be successful in this role, you should have:
  • Direct Experience: Previous experience working directly with students exhibiting challenging behavior in educational settings (SEMH schools, PRUs, or similar).
  • De-escalation Skills: Ability to de-escalate situations effectively and maintain a calm and supportive demeanor.
  • Empathy and Patience: A compassionate approach and patience when working with students facing emotional difficulties.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Relevant Qualifications: While not mandatory, relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be advantageous.
