Job Description

Clinical Technologist – Radiation Physics Radiation Physics, St Luke’s Hospital/Bradford Royal Infirmary, BradfordBand 5 - £24,907 -£30,615 per annum37.5 hours per weekApplications are invited for this post within the Radiation Physics team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.We provide technical, scientific and legal support to diagnostic x-ray, radionuclide, MRI, laser, UV & ultrasound users within the Trust and at a range of external organisations.The work is too varied to describe fully in this advert but would typically include:

  • measuring the radiation dose to patients from a dental x-ray set, a CT scanner, or a PUVA cabinet
  • assessing the quality of the images produced by an x-ray set used for the placement of Cardiology stents
  • assessing damage and making recommendations for the repair of a dropped ultrasound probe
  • measuring the magnetic field from an MRI scanner
  • measuring radioactive contamination with a Geiger counter
  • performing a safety audit on a medical laser
  • building an interactive programmes to record and analyse test data
  • advising other hospital staff how to stay safe when working with radiation
  • We will of course provide the training needed to do all this.Ideally candidates will have an A level in Maths or Physics, and GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, but those with equivalent skills and experience will also be considered.You should have good IT skills, an interest in things technical, a driving licence and use of a suitable vehicle, and a commitment to providing a great service here in Bradford.Applicants with lower skills, experience and qualifications may be appointed on a lower grade.Work outside normal office hours may be expected.Please contact Shaun Beggs (Head of Radiation Physics) on or at shaun.beggs@bthft.nhs.uk if you have any questions or would like to arrange an informal visit with the Radiation Physics team (highly recommended).Closing date: 14 Nov 2020
