Job Description

Ref: 3518Title: Sample Preparation Technician (Pay Rate - £13.74ph Ltd / £11.00 ph PAYE)Division: Research & DevelopmentContract Position based at: WokinghamPosition Description:

  1. To ensure samples are logged into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in an accurate and timely manner for efficient throughput of samples in CSA from receipt to laboratory.
  2. Contribute to other elements of CSAs role including sample disposal, and sub-contracting.
  3. Liaise with customers to ensure correct information is available. Ensure customer satisfaction by acting as an interface with customers and deliver excellent customer service to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner.
  4. Ensure consistency, technical precision and compliance with methods of work and look to identify improvements.
  5. Ensure that company SOPs are followed when dealing with controlled drugs.
  6. Develop good working relationships with Wokingham/RSC colleagues particularly in the laboratories and customer services.
  7. Able to work under pressure and adapt to meet an ever changing customer environment.
  8. Perform a range of basic routine sample orientated tasks including sample preparation and sample disposal under supervision of a senior member of staff.
  9. Execute pipette calibration and data checking as required.
  10. Operate basic lab equipment as directed.
  11. Be competent in the use of generic and specific software packages required for the role: Laboratorys LIMS system and Q-Pulse.
  12. Provide training in routine activities.
  13. Perform Lab admin and housekeeping duties as directed.
  14. Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required.
Skills Required: Proven attention to detail/data entry skills. Ability to plan and organise workload to meet demand. Proven team player.Experience Required: Educated to A level or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory. Good understanding of basic lab equipment including Balances, Auto Pipettes, Centrifuges, Incubators, Water Baths, Plate Reader, Laminar Flow Cabinets, PCR Machines and Gel Electrophoresis equipment.Experience Preferred: Practical experience of working to UKAS standards. Scientific understanding and ability to conduct chemical analysis in relevant area under supervision.Education Required: Practical experience of working to UKAS standards.
