Job Description

Making the Commissions data more accessible and available so that internal and external stakeholders can gain greater insight into charities and the wider charitable sector. This will be done through the design and delivery of data systems, pipelines, andfront-end applications in line with the Commissions Data Strategy.Client DetailsThe Charity Commission has set out our ambitious five-year strategy, being clear that we will be driven by our purpose to ensure that charity can thrive and inspire trust so that people can improve lives and strengthen society.   • Build, test and maintain data systems, ensuring they meet the Commissions requirements, design objectives, user needs and overall goal of making the data useable and accessible for analysis.
  • Working within a multi-skilled data analytics team to deliver systems and services that are automated, reliable, repeatable, secure, and scalable.
  • Translate high-level user requirements into technical design specifications.
  • Create ETL/ELT pipelines to extract, transform and load data according to the database/technical design specification.
  • Advocate for a forward-thinking data analytics culture, where everyone is comfortable using data-based insights to improve the quality and effectiveness of their decisions.
  • Apply knowledge of data manipulation to prepare datasets that are well understood and reusable.
  • Understand our obligations around GDPR and data security and actively ensure that risks are understood, mitigated, and documented.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on ways to improve data capture, ensuring data quality and better analytical reporting.
  • Document, assess and track the Commissions data assets
ProfileEssential
  • A strong analytical mind with proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical colleagues
  • Ability to produce data requirements and design documents
  • Manage and document risks
  • Developing SQL Server databases using T-SQL
  • Creating and maintaining ETL or ELT pipelines
  • Creating data models
  • Creating data mapping documentation
  • Joining tables & datasets from disparate sources
  • Using data visualisation and analytics tools to create insightful reports and dashboards
  • Maintaining a data dictionary
  • Working with XML or JSON file formats
  • Advanced T-SQL programming
  • Database design theory (both relational OLTP and warehousing OLAP).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Microsoft SQL Server business intelligence toolset (On-Prem or Cloud)
  • Knowledge of extract, transform and load toolsets (On-Prem or Cloud)
  • An awareness of cloud-based Microsoft technologies
  • An understanding of data governance
  • An understanding of GDPR and how it effects data retention, protection and processing.
