Job Description

Womens Support Worker - Womens Aid East and MidlothianHours: 35 hours a week full timeSalary: £21,559 to £23,310 per annumLocation: East Lothian and Midlothian (based in accommodation)Holidays: 6 weeks entitlement annual leave, rising to 8 weeks annual leave after one year of employment (pro rata)Pension: 5% employer contribution to a personal pension plan on completion of 3 months employment.Full Time Post: Fixed term contracts until June 2023 based in East and Midlothian.As a Support Worker, travel across East Lothian and Midlothian is required therefore a driving licence and access to a car is essential.The Social Care Community Partnership are currently recruiting for a full time Womens Support Worker for Womens Aid East and MidlothianWAEML provides information, support and accommodation to women (including trans-women), children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. As a Womens Support Worker you will provide the highest possible standard of support to women, childrenand young people accessing the service.WAEML positively welcomes applicants from within all sections of the community although are exempt under Schedule 9 (Part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only women need apply.Key responsibilities:

  • To assess a womans suitability for WAEML accommodation and decide on appropriate support either from WAEML or another suitable organisation.
  • To provide emotional and practical support to women who live in WAEML accommodation.
  • To meet with women as a key worker on a regular and planned basis, developing and reviewing individual support plans and risk assessments.
  • To complete with women, all necessary paperwork and begin the process of applying for housing benefit and any appropriate income benefits.
  • To prepare relevant reports for childrens panels, court proceeding or case conferences where necessary and accompany women to such meetings as the need arising.
  • To provide practical assistance to women moving into their new tenancy (i.e. sourcing grants to furnish their homes, getting to know the local area).
  • Staff the duty service to provide emotional, practical support and information at point of contact i.e. in person or telephone to women who have experience of domestic abuse.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with all other WAEML workers to ensure the smooth running of the service and provision of integrated family support.
