Job Description

We are urgently seeking an experienced and skilled HM Coroners Officer to assist in ensuring the provision of an effective and efficient administration service to enable the Coroner to fulfil his/her statutory responsibility for one of our local government clients based in Bolton.The HM Coroners Officer will monitor reported deaths to ensure that they are dealt with efficiently, sympathetically and expeditiously. They will deal with all tasks relating to inquests, including opening inquests and their continuing conduct and be responsible for the efficient conduct of inquest files, including listings, hearings and liaising with witnesses and juries.They will liaise appropriately and sensitively with bereaved relatives regarding the post mortem process and its outcome and deal with families, undertakers or other personal representatives of the deceased either calling into the office or over the telephoneIdeal candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience of working in a Coronial environment is ESSENTIAL
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sympathetically, both orally and in writing, with officers, members of the public, elected members and partners from outside organisations.
  • Demonstrate an ability to use relevant IT systems.
  • Ability to organise and manage workload and complete tasks on time, working towards prescribed deadlines
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines according to the demands of the service.
  • Self motivated and demonstrate the ability to work with minimum direction.
