Communal establishments officers 25 hours a week Contract: 16 February 2021 to 14 April 2021 plus holidaySalary dependent on locationBand 1 - £14.61Band 2 - £12.64Band 3 - £11.22No fixed daily working hours but you must work within the following times:Monday to Saturday: 9am and 8pmSundays and bank holidays: 10am and 4pmConfident communicators make the censusThe census is a survey of the entire population of England and Wales that happens every 10 years. It’s run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.The information we collect is used to make decisions that affect everyone – things like how many schools, surgeries and hospitals we need.To help us, we need a field team to encourage people in communal establishments (CEs) to take part. CEs are managed residential accommodations such as universities and care homes, so you will meet people from all walks of life.The roleIn this flexible, temporary role, you will make contact with and visit addresses of CEs, to either deliver or follow up on census questionnaires. Most of your work will be face-to-face, but you will need to make phone calls ahead of some visits, building relationships with accommodation managers and residents to encourage them to take part. You will also help people overcome any objections or barriers to completing the questionnaire either by assisting them yourself or referring them to available support.You will work in a team with assistance and guidance from your team leader, who will meet with you when you are working to help you settle into your role. Your hours will be flexible to help you maximise engagement with the CE populations you need to reach.About youYou are an outgoing, confident communicator and you are at ease using smartphones and tablets. You likely have previous customer service experience, and you will be comfortable speaking to members of the public in their own homes. A team player, you are professional and calm in challenging situations.You will be out and about visiting addresses, so you must be prepared to travel. You will need a current, full UK driving license and use of a motor vehicle, insured for business use. We will pay travel expenses within your work area.For roles in Wales, knowledge of Welsh would be an advantage.To be considered for the role, you must be available from 16 February 2020 to 14 April 2021 inclusive. You will also need to be flexible with your hours, because you might have to work evenings and weekends, depending on the accommodation you are visiting.People make the census.
