Job Description

LHR are proud to be working exclusively in partnership with our client under our Talent for Good model, as they look to recruit a General Manager for their Blackburn operation due to retirement, with a mid-March start date. You will receive a basic salary of £40,000 - £50,000 pa dependent on experience with an achievable OTE up to £70,000.So, if people are your passion and you thrive leading a team to success, can spot an opportunity to drive efficiencies, have strong commercial awareness and are a “hands-on” manager then you might just have found your perfect role! Reporting into the Directors, you will be responsible for the overall running of the company. You will have 7 direct reports including drivers. Ideally you will come from a timber distributor, or similar trade industry.As General Manager, your overall responsibilities for the company will include: - Delivering financial objectives as agreed.- Maintaining and developing relationships with suppliers, customers, and transport companies.- Ensuring that all quality and health and safety standards are implemented and adhered to across the company.- Acting as the escalation point for any operational issues, ensuring these are dealt with quickly and efficiently to avoid any service disruption.- Encouraging and implementing improvements throughout the warehouse and office.- Managing escalated HR issues.- Managing cost reduction in all areas of the organisation.We are recruiting for an experienced General Manager with a strong background in people management, sales, and relationship building. Peter, the MD is retiring after 35 years in the business, and we are recruiting for his replacement. Whilst these are big shoes to fill, there is an opportunity to make your mark, improve efficiencies and have autonomy to run the company. The successful person will have the following skills and experience:- Experience in warehouse management within wholesale (preferably timber but other industries will be considered).- Experience of P&L, budgets, cashflows.- Strong commercial awareness.- Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods.- Experience with fleet management of trucks.- Building management and repairs.- Strong communicator with experience of managing a team.- Good organisational, time management and multitasking skills.- Exceptional numerical and financial skills.- Experience of using Sage & MS Office packages.- Have worked in a General Management / Warehouse Operations role and / or as a Distribution Manager, Business Manager, Regional Manager.About the companyOur client is very successful and has been established for over 50 years, they are an independent, family run business that supplies wood-based sheet materials to both trade and public alike. Bulk buy clients range from furniture manufacturers, building merchants, joinery manufactures and house builders to name a few. There are also smaller purchasers who use the trade counter.
