Consultant in Urology (Pelvic Oncology)The Urology service at ELHT is progressive and forward thinking and these posts present an exciting opportunity to join a cohesive team of enthusiastic Urology professionals who are supported by high quality colleagues in the wider multi-disciplinary team.This is one of two Consultant posts being advertised to join our Urology Service at ELHT.Consultant in Urology - The appointment is for a Full time Consultant Urological Surgeon on 10PAs working across our two base sites of RBTH and BGTH. It is intended that the successful candidate will have an interest and Pelvic Oncology.This is one of two posts currently being recruited. With these two appointments there will be 10 full time Urology Consultants supporting a 1:10 on-call rota with middle grade cover. The department is actively looking to expand and will be advertising at least one further substantive post in the near future.There is subspecialisation in Oncology, Endourology and functional Urology. All consultants still undertake core Urology. Andrology services are also provided but are mainly run by a Clinical Nurse Specialist.The consultants are supported by 7 middle grades, comprising of 3 SpRs from the North West rotation (reflecting a high commitment to training), 1 SAS doctor and 3 Senior Clinical Fellows. The department is also supported by 1 CT1, 2 FY2’s and 3 FY1’s.The department is an accredited cancer centre for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network where the major pelvic cancer surgery is currently split between East Lancashire Hospitals Trust and one other provider. The trust has an NHS commissioned da Vinci robot which is used for radical prostatectomies, partial nephrectomies and cystectomies.The Urology Service has inpatients based on the Blackburn site. The department in Blackburn is a fully integrated Urology outpatients, ward and offices, all of which are contained in a dedicated unit. The theatre complex is on the floor below with two theatres mainly serving Urology. The dedicated Urology outpatient’s suite has facilities for Flexible Cystoscopy and Transrectal Ultrasound and Prostate Biopsies. Videourodynamics are performed in the x-ray department. The department also has an Holmium:YAG laser that is used for Endourology and for treatment of bladder tumours via Flexible Cystoscopy.On the Burnley site there is a Urology Investigations Unit where Flexible Cystoscopy, Urodynamics and TRUS sessions are performed. The outpatients are seen in general outpatient clinics. Some inpatient work and day case surgery is performed in the Elective Surgical Centre. Paediatric Urological Surgery is also performed in Burnley. The department provides Lithotripsy services once a month, alternating between the Blackburn and Burnley sites using mobile lithotripsy providers.Outpatient clinics are also undertaken by the department in Accrington, Clitheroe, Pendle, Nelson and Rossendale.East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is an integrated care organisation formed by the merger of hospital and community services in East Lancashire.
