Job Description

System DeveloperLocation: BirminghamSalary: £33,706 to £40,588 per annumBirmingham Womens and Childrens NHS Foundation Trust is the first of its type in the UK. The Trust was formed in February 2017 to drive forward their commitment to provide the highest quality, world-class physical and mental health care for women, childrenand families.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a System Developer at AfC band 6. The position is based across both Clinical and Laboratory Genetics based at Birmingham Womens Hospital and is part of a wider developer and project lead team. Please note that thisis a development role, not a project management role.This post will support the management and delivery of clinical programmes and will have a key role in future developments including the introduction of whole genome sequencing as part of the National Genomic Medicine Service in England and Electronic PatientRecord SystemsThe RoleThe Genetics directorate uses a wide range of software supporting both the patient-facing clinical service and laboratory investigations. As part of a small team you will be responsible for the analysis, design, development and maintenance of applicationsutilised in Genetics, and the links between them. The organisation are looking for candidates with good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and creatively when resolving problems.Technical skills required for this role include SQL, Microsoft Access and VBA, and experience of integration. Other skills such as Python, Java and Documentum are desirable but not essential.Person SpecificationExperienceEssential:

  • Experience in a systems development role, utilising SQL and at least one other language
  • Experience of full development lifecycle
Desirable:
  • Experience of process improvements and change management
  • HL7 messaging and NHS Data dictionary standards knowledge.
  • NHS experience
Knowledge and SkillsEssential:
  • Advanced IT skills including Excel and Access (VBA) and data mining.
  • Demonstrable aptitude for techniques of database design, management and interrogation
  • SQL database skills.
Desirable:
  • Understanding requirements through conversation with clinical teams
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills applied in a technical environment; analyses situations to identify problems.
  • Consideration of competing demands of data quality and accuracy with usability and simplicity
  • Experience of collection, coding, management, reporting and presentation of NHS activity to enable measure outputs
  • Broad experience of using information derived from large and complex data sets.
QualificationsEssential:
  • SQL Server demonstrable skills ideally supported by certification
Desirable:
  • Degree in Computing or numerate subject
