Job Description

Job purpose The role is to provide environmental assistance and advice into pre-construction and construction operations encompassing all Interserve Construction division. Key Tasks

  • Training:
  • Ensure sustainability training courses are kept up to date and aligned with industry standards
  • Deliver sustainability training that is required as identified by the business units
  • Provide mentoring to new staff where appropriate
  • Provide bespoke training where a need is identified by the business unit
  • Provide or deliver Toolbox talks
  • Communication:
  • Liaise with Sustainability Advisors and Health and Safety Advisors
  • Attend Business System Review Meetings as required
  • Compose a report for Senior Leadership Meetings
  • Draft and distribute alerts, posters (as required) and newsletters
  • Attend Client Environmental Forums
  • Attend Industry organisations, e.g. CECA, BUILD UK
  • Attend Group Sustainability Working groups
  • Attend Construction Sustainability strategy and action meetings
  • Project Assistance:
  • Attend New Contract Pre-Commencement Meeting where necessary
  • Site Inspection to be done for each site as identified at Pre-Commencement Meeting through risk assessment
  • Liaise with Safety Advisors to ensure environmental site inspections are done and are to a good standard.
  • Technical support relating to implementation of management systems on site, sustainability performance and legal compliance.
  • Liaison with environmental regulators on behalf of site teams.
  • Support in complying with other sustainability related requirements (e.g. planning conditions, client requirements, BREEAM / CEEQUAL).
  • Winning Work: Assist with Tenders and Prequalification as requested
  • External Audits:
  • Assist in preparation and presentation for external audit
  • Carry out Waste transfer station audits
  • Processes:
  • Ensure environmental processes are up to date, relevant and fit for purpose through annual review
  • Respond to feedback on management system
  • Communicate any changes to management system
  • Best Practice to be highlighted and communicated
  • External recognition awards to be sought
  • Skills
  • Good Communication Skills, verbal and written
  • Computer literate
  • Driving Licence
  • Teamworking
  • Qualifications and Specialisms
  • Degree in environmental management, sustainability management or equivalent
  • Chartered Environmentalist Status (Desired)
  • IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management
  • Desired PIEMA
  • Lead Auditor ISO 14001
  • Previous experience
  • Previous environmental management role preferably in Construction
  • Previous training experience
  • Up to date knowledge of UK environmental Legislation
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems
