Job Description

£45K negotiable based on experienceBased In Birmingham, however national applications consideredBackground: Scichem are a leading distributor of scientific and laboratory equipment and chemicals, supplying industrial and education sectors in the Republic of Ireland, UK and a number of other countries from three current sites located in Cork, Wolverhampton and Aberdeen. Using our sector knowledge, experience and supply base, we source and supply to demanding markets including food and beverage, oil processors, testing laboratories, pharmaceuticals and biotech, academia, and many more. We exist to support the science community to make a difference in the world.Job purpose: This role will be responsible for leading Scichem’s new Pharmaceutical and Biotech product offering, designed to significantly drive Customer Acquisition and growth of key Pharma and Biotech Accounts in the UK and Ireland . The role holder will be the champion of SciChem’s Pharma and Biotech product and service solutions and will be accountable for driving significant new customer acquisition and revenue growth in this portfolio. This individual will capitalise on his/ her experience in developing a credible market entry strategy, then delivering product and service development plans and propositions that drive and yield high recurring revenue growth in laboratory capital equipment and associated "refills", products, chemicals and related supplies, for the pharmaceutical, biotech and related businesses (e.g. potentially medicines and vaccines research & development, medical testing and diagnostics, biochemistry and life sciences, environmental science, agriculture and food science, veterinary science, etc.).Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • Development of product and service strategy for the UK and Irish Pharma and Biotech markets, defining competitor offerings, customer needs and identifying market opportunities for a differentiated product and service set
  • Development and delivery of a clear, compelling product and proposition set for new large-scale Pharma and Biotech laboratory customers in the UK and Ireland , and other related businesses, identifying key sectors, companies and specific processes that can be served by Scichem
  • Growth of key accounts to achieve increasing share of lab capital equipment and supplies spend with SciChem,
  • Driving and growing recurring revenue through the sales channels - Direct Sales, Partners and Digital Marketing by offering products and services that have a naturally recurring need
  • Work with sales to retain and grow all key Pharma & Biotech accounts through understanding customer needs, account planning and delivering on actions to extend the product set to related processes
  • In collaboration with marketing and sales, define and deliver a product strategy to win new customers via multiple channels, develop key propositions (e.g. efficiency and / or speed and / or accuracy of capital equipment; subscriptions; traceability and supply chain quality assurance; next-day delivery etc.) for the Pharma and Biotech segment and sub-segments (R&D, Life Sciences, drug discovery, testing, diagnostics, etc.), and develop and implement a single, integrated sales and marketing calendar, with a series of "always on" messaging and specific campaigns for the UK and Irish markest, according to customer buying trends and market opportunities
  • Work with suppliers to plan, research,and where necessary write, scientifically complex, high quality, evidence-based and accurate product and service materials, for use on the website, in the sales processes, and in response to customer queries
  • Maintain broad knowledge of relevant information resources to easily access and expertly integrate data and information from various sources and technologies to address customer needs across sectors and phases of development
  • Source and secure the rights to the right products that will win in the market
  • Work with procurement and logistics and customer services to ensure that customers are completely satisfied with their experiences
  • Contribute to a high-performance team culture within the UK and Ireland , the Marketing and Sales function, and the company overall, to deliver the right solutions for our customers, leading to growth, retention and continuously improving reputation in the market
  • Skills, know-how and experience:
  • 5+ years of relevant product management experience, with at least 3+ years working on product sets sold for Pharma & Biotech laboratory customers (e.g. products such as life science or pharmaceutical R&D equipment and consumables, chemicals, etc.)
  • Strategically minded with an expert level of technical knowledge of pharmaceutical and / or biotech processes, and how science is a key aspect within these / experience of water testing / food and beverage / general industrial lab products would be an advantage
  • Experience working in an end-to-end customer facing environment across marketing, sales and customer service
  • Technical / professional qualifications:
  • Masters degree or above in a science related discipline - e.g. chemistry, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, epidemiology, immunology, genetics, process/ chemical engineering, etc.
  • Additional qualifications in product management and marketing or business
  • Additional qualifications in sales (such as a sales methodology) an added advantage
