Your new roleAre you looking for your next role within Operational Research Do you have experience in statistics, mathematics, computer science - then we have the role for you.Join our expanding Network Analysis and Statistics team and use your analytical expertise and data engineering skills to produce robust, insightful analysis on the performance of our strategic road network. You will lead and collaborate on projects thatprovidethe evidence to support decisions for National Highways multi-billion-pound road investment strategy. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of datasets, such as road safety and customer satisfaction, and our multiple terabytes of road trafficdata, and more.A key part of your role will be to provide analytical advice and guidance across the organisation, so you will be a great communicator with a confident working knowledge of a broad range of operational research and statistical techniques. You will have greatinter-personal skills to enable you to work closely with a range of important internal and external stakeholders.This role can be based in either Birmingham, Exeter or Manchester. We are happy to accommodate flexible working arrangements and welcome a discussion around how we can make working for National Highways work for you. In particular, blended working betweenhome and base office location is available. Occasional travel to other National Highways locations and to key external stakeholder offices will be required.What you will be leading onAnalysis into the traffic and journey time, safety and customer satisfaction performance of the strategic road network, producing analytically assured reports and outputs that communicate insight effectively Designinghigh-quality analysis, models and tools that provide network intelligence, performance insight and forecasts. Creating data pipelines and tools to enable you and others to do the analysis the business requires. Developing performance indicators designed to measure the performance of the company in key outcome areas. Setting and implementing consistent standards and guidance for using data, applying operational research techniques and statistical methods, and communicating analytical outcomes Providing analytical assurance and high-quality analytical advice across the organisation Developing the analytical capability of the team and the wider organisation Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with analysts across the organisation to champion consistent analytical approaches To be successfulExperience of applying a range of operational research analytical and statistical techniques to real world problems, to produce insight that supports decision makingExperience of using a range of programming languages for data analysis and modelling, such as SQL, R, Python or similar, and experience of using geoprocessing packages such as ArcMap, QGISExcellent communication skills and an engaging communication style, with the ability to present with impact to a range of audiences Able to work collaboratively to build and maintain strong relationships Experience of working with Microsoft Azure for data science/engineering (eg Databricks, Data Factory, Data Studio) is desirable.
